About Us
We first understand the social, emotional and biological needs of an individual dog, and their L.E.G.S., and how that influences their behavior
At Leaps and Hounds Behavior, we offer guidance to first understand a dog’s needs and the WHYs of their behavior through L.E.G.S.® (Learning, Environment, Genetics, Self), a Model of Integrated Canine Science. L.E.G.S. describes the whole and unique picture of the dog in front of us - all the internal and external conditions (needs) which influence their behavior.
We consider where the friction or imbalance is in their L.E.G.S. - where are needs not being met? We then understand how that all intersects with the needs and expectations of the family, through Family Dog Mediation®. From there we can provide support with humane, reward-based strategies. Supporting the dog’s L.E.G.S. and restoring harmony to the human-canine relationship, is the essence of our work with families and dogs.
In order to fulfill our mission of providing educational support and guidance for the community to enhance the welfare of animals through a fluent understanding of behavior, we also pursue continuing education. This includes regularly attending seminars and workshops on animal behavior, incorporating the latest scientific research and understanding across multiple disciplines, and consulting with peers.
